06-JUL-84 1300 Local, Just off Andoya, Norway
The small NATO freighter is already at flank speed,. A lookout yelled, "Torpedo! Torpedo 5 o'clock! Closing in fast!"
Captain picked up the 1MC, "All hands, brace for impact!"
BOOM! The torpedo detonated under their keel. Both engines had stopped, their shaft snapped by the explosion that forced their stern out of the water for a moment. Captain knew the ship is doomed.
"All hands! Abandon ship! Repeat! All hands! Abandon ship!" He announced over the 1MC, even as he flipped on the SOS beacon, hoped the Norwegian Coast Guard can save his crew in time.

24 hours prior...
02-JUL-84 Murmansk, USSR
Kapitan-Leytnant Changov boarded K-355, a Whiskey-class diesel-electric submarine of the Soviet Navy. The guards saluted him, and he saluted back. He went below looking for the chief engineer, but the zampolit found him first.
"There you are, Kapitan-Leytnant. I have checked with the crew, and they are ready to do their duty for the *Rodina!*"
"That's great, Gregor. Have you seen the Engineer?"
"Still back in engineering, Kapitan, last I've seen him. There you are, XO. How's the ship?"
"We're ready to go, unless you need to change the loadout, sir."
"I asked for 6 anti-sub torpedoes and 6 anti-surface torpedoes, along with 2 Gerund decoys. And I look forward to the days we get a sub that is capable of fielding the dual-purpose torpedoes. Clearly our opponents do not have to deal with this sort of bureaucracy... Different torpedoes for different tasks!"
The zampolit looked as if he wanted to say something, but Changov already left him behind as he headed aft. XO knew the loadout is correct, and did not reply.
The sub got underway soon after, as the first meeting took place in the wardroom, where Kapitan Changov unsealed his first order: intercept convoy from Bergen to Andoya.
They will be in Norwegian waters, and Norwegian navy have no reason to be friendly. But they will be ready for whatever come their way...
At least... they think so.
03:43 North of Murmansk
03-JUL-84 2200L
K-355 left the port of Murmansk and hugged the coast as it steered toward Andoya, dodging NATO maritime patrol aircrafts. Then suddenly a NATO submarine left Narvik and intercepted K-355.
K-355 turned northwest, as the enemy contact is due north. Changov decided to send a torpedo as greeting, then dodge downward to test depth, without finalizing the classification of the NATO sub. It's clearly a nuke though, probably a Yankee sub.
Then the sonar tech called out... It's a Yankee 688-class, sir!
Yikes, their best sub with their best torpedoes. It's time to run away, while the torpedo hopefully will keep it busy.
They fired a torpedo, sir!
Turn west! Dive to test depth!
Torpedo no threat, sir.
Let's disengage while we still can.
HQ, of course, wanted to chase down the convoy ASAP, but we're waiting for it.
11:12 Another sub encounter
Another sub challenged us. We dodged them best we could but they got close enough that we're forced to dive as they got too close.

After silent running determined that we're facing a Kobben, we decided to disengage, even as Kobben failed to locate us.
17:26 Convoy is here
05-JUL-84 1300L
The convoy arrived, and we intercepted it while dodging around the sub.
It was a small convoy: a small standard NATO freighter, escorted by a Nordkapp and an Oslo, coming straight at us...
We hid beneath a thermal layer, hoping to get behind the convoy, but the Oslo shot first, followed by Norkapp. We launched both decoys and used noisemakers to dodge the incoming, but we were still hit once. Our second salvo sank all 3 ships, and we headed back to Murmansk for repairs and reloads.
We arrived at Murmansk at 06-JUL-84 0600L. Not bad for first patrol.

This will be my third attempt of Soviet campaign. The year is 1984. After too many Yankee provocations, Soviet Union had enough and declared war. The Soviet Army can take Europe, if the Soviet Navy can stop or at least slow the amount of reinforcements reaching continental Europe from the US. And as a captain of a Soviet submarine, I will do my duty to the Motherland.
