Repton 3 Medieval Level 7
2Level 7 (Trebuchet) of the Medieval scenario completed without taking the time capsule. I was pleased to receive a request to video this level, as it's one I've been meaning to do for a while, for personal reasons.
I discovered Superior Interactive's PC remakes of the Repton games too late to have any of my own designed levels included in Repton Spectacular (http://www.superiorinteractive.com/repton/spectacular.htm) although Richard Hanson generously made a last-minute decision to include my Reptology scenarios, Repton 3 adaptations of levels from the other games. I did, however, play an important role in testing the levels and placing them in order. I also had a limited amount of creative input; Richard and I chose the titles for the themed levels together (and most of the Medieval titles were mine). But there are just three levels where I made substantial suggestions for improving the layout and gameplay, and this is one of them (the other two being Glacier 11 and Volcano 17).
The level's central puzzle, from which the title comes, involves piling up rocks to connect a cage. I naturally suggested replacing some rocks with skulls to reduce the number available to the bare minimum needed, so that care had to be taken to make sure none were wasted, which is not easy. (I wasn't entirely successful; Jonathan pointed out that the remaining two rocks in the top-right area can in fact be used to help connect the cage, since you can reach that area before taking the transporter. Once you take the transporter, you have to take the diamond cutting those two rocks off. But since it uses up a lot of time to make a separate journey to the top-right, my solution is still fastest.)
Another notable (and unique) puzzle on this level is that the rock should be pushed over the top-left fungus at the beginning, changing the direction it is able to grow in so it will not trap the spirit.
