Resident Evil 2 was pretty much the whole reason I ended up getting a PS1 (along with WipEout 2097) after Sega pretty much gave up on the Saturn. I absolutely loved the first game on the Saturn and RE2 took everything that was great about it made it even better. After playing a demo version of it my mate's PS1 I knew I was going to have to get one and a copy of the game...

I absolutely loved the old school Resident Evil games. RE2 has so much lastability, with the 2 discs and A and B stories for both Leon and Clare and so many memorable set pieces and boss battles - the thought of getting chased down by the T-00 Tyrant still makes me shudder.... it was fucking terrifying. Code Veronica on the Dreamcast is probably my equal favourite in the series along with RE2. After the blocky and slightly indistinct pixels of the old 32bit console games, CV just looked so much better and added in cool new stuff like the weapons you could aim in first person mode and genuine 3D scrolling backgrounds in some parts of the game, rather than the pre-rendered 2D ones.

I thought Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube was amazing and a great re-invention of the series (and I wasn't sad to see the tank controls ditched). It also looked absolutely top notch. I really wasn't a big fan of Resident Evil 5 though. I played a demo initially on PS3 and enjoyed it, but when I got the actual game I realised there was a big problem I had with it - the introduction of the retarded AI character you had to chaperone throughout the game, who just felt like more of a hindrance rather than an asset, particularly in boss fights when they'd take all the much needed ammo you were trying to get to. I gave up on the game not long after the first major boss and sold it. After that, I never bothered with the other modern games (although I played a demo of 6 or 7, can't remember which, and by this point it felt more like an action game rather than a survival horror). Also, I've tried the VR Kitchen demo from RE7, which was admittedly pretty cool.

The little bit of the game I got to experience here in this RE2 demo seems pretty awesome. Really back to the game's survival horror roots - the bits where you're going down the corridor with only your torch (that's what we call a flashlight in the UK) really had me super creeped out. Think I'm definitely going to be making a purchase.
