Chris Redfield, a member of the BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance), is dispatched to Kijuju in Africa. With the help of Sheva Alomar he will try to apprehend Ricardo Irving before he can sell a bio-organic weapon (BOW) on the black market. These events take place in 2009, five years after the events of Resident Evil 4.
My Review of RESIDENT EVIL 5: Excellent, 9/10
RESIDENT EVIL 5 built on the strengh of its predecessor RESIDENT EVIL 4 who received critical acclaims & was a commercial success. Excellent sound design & orchestral musical score. Mainly set during daytime allowing extremely beautiful graphics of the lavish outdoor landscape, the game is an outstanding visual achievement, no others games looked as crisp & detailed, simply the best & ahead of its time, still looking great today. It was the first video game ever to use a virtual camera system for motion capture, which increase enourmously realism of the characters. Not the greatest story, but it's quite entertaining nonetheless. The game switch from survival horror shooter to an action adventure shooter game, improving some of the flaws of the previous title action wise, such as the ability to equip weapons & items in real time during gameplay, and upgrade those weapons at anytime in your inventory. The enemies are more agile & hostile, they can use fire arms & throw grenades, but the cover system is unrefined & sometimes your AI partner (Sheva) can get in the way or deplete your items, which can be frustrating.
RESIDENT EVIL 5 is a 2 players cooperative game, a player can join your game at any moment during the playthrough, but have to wait until the next check point. Players have the ability to resuscitate & heal each other, trade items & communicate by giving simple commande during gameplay wich allows a more immersive experience if you don't like players in-game chat destroying the atmosphere, mood & flow of the game. It's the best 2 players co-op game the industry ever released in my opinion, allowing a true & intimate co-op experience, which increase amazingly the replay value of the game, with also the addition of the Mercenaries mode (from RE3) & the addictive Survivors mode. RESIDENT EVIL 5 is a phenomenal tripple A action video game, no wonder it's the best selling RESIDENT EVIL game of all time with is 7.5 millions games sold as of 2019 (11.3 millions units in total, PS4 included). Maybe not the best tittle in the franchise, but my favorite game of them all. In an era were publishers often serve unfinished, unpolished or half-baked games, always squeezing consumers for more money with in-game microtransactions, RESIDENT EVIL 5 is the perfect example when a Developper/Publisher do the things the right way. Don't forget the release of one of the greatest demo of All-time, RESIDENT EVIL 5 demo, downloaded more than 3 millions times & 3 months before the release of the game; this was great marketing & Capcom at is best! Time have changed.. !!
