Revolution X, 1994 Midway (20 From '94 Part 15)
Rail shooter starring the band Aerosmith! No kidding! Steven Tyler and the band lend their likenesses and voices to this game with a silly plot-- in the near future a tyrannical faction called NEW ORDER denies cool stuff like rock music and tattoos to kids, and plans to reprogram them into mindless slaves and other nasty stuff. The band members are abducted as well and your main goal is to reach the leader of NEW ORDER named Helga, and destroy her. Hold the trigger down to fire repeatedly, and collect the secondary weapon-- compact discs (no, really!)-- to make taking down enemies easier. An aspect of this game I really like best is that just about ANYTHING can be blown up for at the very least points, but also for extra CDs and weapon power-ups like a Super Gun, Laserdiscs (stronger than regular discs), a Shield (temporary invincibility), Skullbombs (smart bombs), and Energy Shakes that restore energy. Crates also sometimes drop down or appear, that usually contain multiple CDs. A single silver CD is worth 3, and a gold CD is worth 10. One thing i DON'T like about this game is the incredibly protracted boss battles-- the bosses bombard you with firepower and take FOREVER to bring down. This game allows up to 3 players at once, each with a rifle. SO BRING FRIENDS! You'll save yourself a lot of grief. Aerosmith's music is plentiful in this game, and uses their digitized likenesses and video clips of them talking to you. After playing 2 levels you get the opportunity to play 3 more levels in whichever order you like (Amazon, Middle East or Pacific Rim), and then Wembley Stadium for the showdown with Helga. I wasn't kidding that you can shoot pretty much EVERYTHING in this game-- you can even enter a restroom and shoot toilet rolls and soap dispensers, or shoot palm trees, or shoot an alley cat! If you don't rescue all the band members (by various secret means) you get the "meh" ending.. but if you DO rescue all the band members you get the "good" ending, where you see Aerosmith perform "Walk This Way" onstage, and go backstage to collect "Mammy Awards" for tons of points! Interesting little rail shooter, with tons of cool little tricks and secrets, but dear God bring some buddies to play this game with to take out the bosses a lot easier!
