ring^-27 is a doujin shooting game released in 2011. It has a whole bunch of different modes, though you have to unlock most of them. That, combined with the four different difficulty levels, and the plethora of different weapons you can choose from, means there's a lot of different ways to play this game, ranging from fairly orthodox to truly outrageous. This video shows one of the sillier modes. There's a couple other videos of this but this one's the highest-scoring I've seen.

I had a long description typed up explaining all the mechanics I took advantage of, but apparently it's too long for YouTube so I'll leave a link to my post on the shmups forum where I dumped a bunch of details about the scoring system: https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic...
(it's actually not that complicated, but that list isn't organized very well and goes into more detail than you really need to know)

Here's some info more specific to this mode and run:

Your default weapon (for when you're not anchored to any enemies) can be chosen by pressing left/right at the mode selection screen. Mirror reflects all bullets as long as you keep holding the shot button. This is pretty silly in all modes but especially in Circle mode because even when you anchor to enemies, which puts you at risk in other modes because it replaces your weapon with the enemy's, the circle pushes bullets away. Essentially you're invulnerable to everything except enemy collisions as long as you don't anchor to an enemy with no energy (the circle stops pushing bullets if you run out of energy).

Even though Circle + Mirror is trivial for survival, there is some scoring you can do. Red crystals and medals increase the value of medals, so I tried to get as much of those as I could without dying (dying reduces these counts by a third). Red crystals also increase the value of bullet cancels, so I tried to get large bullet cancels, which gives more red crystals and is also worth a good amount itself.

In the early boss fights I raised my rank by leaving circle on with no energy and sitting far away from the boss (to avoid anchoring to anything and losing Mirror). High rank increases the amount of blue and red crystals you get from destroying enemies, which gives you more points/medal value and lets you keep your circle active more (which also gives you more points/medal value). It makes bullets much faster, but this isn't a problem if you're reflecting all of them anyway (though it can make large cancels harder to get). It also makes medals fall down the screen faster, which can be a problem.

I got a long chain in the last part of the final stage, which I wasn't planning for and which gave me way more points than I expected. Probably could have gotten even more if I were prepared for it.

I adjusted my recording settings again, so hopefully this video doesn't get destroyed by compression. (Videos of this game tend to suffer, with all the cancelling and the bullets and crystals flying around.)

ring^-27 can be purchased from DLsite English for about $5 USD: http://www.dlsite.com/eng/work/=/prod...

For some reason the DLsite version isn't updated to v1.1a (it's on v1.1), so the updater for that can be downloaded from the developer's blog here: http://sumishiro.blogspot.com/2012/08...
