This is a run I did for Mark_MSX's "Shmup Slam": https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64399

It's pretty much as the title says - a clear of Detana!! TwinBee's first loop without getting any powerup bells (speedup, option, shield, etc.) or ground powerups (three-way shot, GwinBee, and the star that eliminates bullets/enemies on the screen). Golden bells and fruit are okay since they only give score (there are no score extends, or any extends at all, in this game). I decided that the ambulance (which restores your arms once per stage/life if you lose both arms) is also okay.

I always suspected a run like this would be easier than the Gradius equivalent, but was still surprised by just how playable the game was without any powerups. Scoring well is tough, and accidentally grabbing powerups (especially ground powerups, which spawn randomly) is always a threat, but rarely do I feel too underpowered to survive. The charge shot makes the big difference here - it remains an effective weapon no matter how many, or how few, powerups you have.
