With the Avengers sequel now in production, star Robert Downey Jr is getting back in superhero mode and sharing his thoughts on the pros and cons of playing Tony Stark. In a recent interview with Variety, RDJ revealed that he had a lot to do with Chris Evans taking on the role of Captain America explaining that he convinced him to in order to avoid the first film, which he called the riskiest franchise for Marvel at the time, from becoming the squarest superhero movie ever. He also shared how big a fan he and his family are of Captain America and he plans to screen the film on his birthday next week. I'm sure our invite to that should be arriving any day now. In addition to declaring his fandom for Cap, RDJ also shared his thoughts on playing a superhero saying that he knew landing the role of Iron Man would be a life changer for him and that he looks at such a role as like having a part on a really good TV show. No matter if you're hoping to get picked up for another season, secretly wishing for the show to get cancelled or are sick of doing the same role, but it's working well for you, it's better than having to call your agent asking if there's another job out there for you. As for how long he'll be keeping his current job as everybody's favorite genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, he says he knows they will someday have to start over and bring on someone younger, but he isn't quite there yet and at the end of the day, superhero films are driven by young moviegoers. Until then, we can still look forward to him donning the Iron Man armor in next summer's Avengers: Age of Ultron to which he calls quote "a very ambitious sequel...it's dense, it's smart. Joss [Whedon] is a really smart guy. My 2-year-old is crazy about Hawkeye, and I think Jeremy [Renner] has a lot to do with the plot. There's always so many plates to spin to get these things half-right, and I'm really excited about this one."
