RoboCop 2 (Arcade) Playthrough
Playthrough of Data East's 1990 platform shooter for the Arcades, RoboCop 2.
*RoboCop 2* is a 1990 arcade platform shooter developed and published by Data East, based on the film of the same name. As a sequel to the original RoboCop arcade game, it retains side-scrolling action while introducing new mechanics and a more intense, fast-paced experience.
Players take control of RoboCop as he battles through multiple stages filled with criminals, cyborgs, and enemy robots. The game features a mix of *platforming and shooting**, requiring players to jump between levels, navigate hazardous environments, and eliminate enemies with RoboCop’s powerful arsenal. Unlike the first game, *RoboCop 2 gives players more freedom of movement, allowing RoboCop to jump and climb, making it more of a *platform shooter* than a pure run-and-gun.
RoboCop is equipped with his iconic **Auto-9 pistol**, but players can also acquire other weapons, such as rapid-fire machine guns and rocket launchers, to deal with waves of enemies. As in the movie, he must take on the criminal organization distributing the deadly drug **Nuke**, culminating in a battle against **Cain**, the film’s main antagonist, in his monstrous **RoboCop 2 cyborg form**.
Visually, RoboCop 2 features large, detailed sprites and a darker, gritty aesthetic that fits the cyberpunk tone of the films. The environments are well-designed, with destructible objects and interactive elements that add variety to the gameplay. The sound design includes digitized voice samples and a fast-paced soundtrack that enhances the arcade action.
While RoboCop 2 was praised for its improved movement and action-packed gameplay, it was also known for its *high difficulty level**, requiring precise shooting and platforming skills. Despite this, it remains a solid and enjoyable arcade shooter that captures the intense, dystopian atmosphere of the *RoboCop universe.
