Patrolman Alex Murphy was killed on the streets of Detroit. The major corporation there, Omni Consumer Products (OCP) saw an opportunity to sell a new kind of law enforcement officer to the troubled city.
They took what was left of Murphy, encased it in titanium armor, wiped his memory and created RoboCop. Now it's up to RoboCop to clean the streets of Detroit and eliminate the one responsible for his murder, Clarence Boddicker. But it looks like Clarence might not be the kingpin of this town...

Based on the 1987 movie of the same name, you control the cyborg policeman RoboCop in a series of levels of urban setting, outdoors or indoors. Most of the levels, including the first one, represent fighting against criminal gangs along two-dimensional paths, with a side view, mainly scrolling horizontally. Some scenarios are simple straight paths from left to right, others are developed on several floors with platforms.

In the run and gun levels RoboCop can walk horizontally, climb any stairs, kneel and, in many versions, jump (although this is little in theme with the slow and heavy character of the film).
To fight he can use his fists or the pistol, which he can aim to shoot in various directions. You can collect firearm power-ups, with limited ammo, such as a pistol that fires three fanned bullets. The common enemies are criminals, variously armed, who arrive from the sides or from doors or lean out to shoot from the windows. RoboCop has a life energy bar that decreases when hit or hit by enemies and can be restored by collecting reloads. There are end-of-level bosses, usually in the form of vehicles or ED-209 robots.
In bonus levels, RoboCop will have to engage in a first-person shooting bonus round.
