Using the in game mechanic of abdication, if you don't like your current choice of Emperor or need to switch to a specific gender or class for a quest, with enough backing in and out you can pick your desired class/gender. You can also, learned after the fact, build your party with who you want and then abdicate to easily pick that person.

Specially picked the Corsair as we need someone with maritime experience to sail the Comroon Strait to access a faraway island, which while it doesn't contain any of the Seven Heroes does offer one of the major choices in this game that will come later.

Playing on the Nintendo Switch, although it's on PC and other consoles as well. There's a demo for it available as well that carries over to the main game if purchased.
