Rookie Reviews: Neon White

In this episode of Rookie Reviews we take a look at Neon White, a first-person puzzle-platformer with a heavy focus on speed and precision. Every level will keep track of your time and reward your preformance.
The game features shooter elements in the form of collectable cards and demonic targets you have to kill in order to progress further but the main focus is always speed. The faster you kill demons, the better your end-score.
The weapon cards you collect grant you special movement abiliteis that will help you navigate and, in most cases, deal AoE damage so you can kill your targets faster.
The levels are small and compact so your movement has to be precise and planned in order to get the best results. Thankfully, every level can be replayed multiple times so you can memorize and adjust your movement thru the layout. And that's the whole game in a nutshell.
The story is presented to you in a form of a visual-novel when you visit the HUB world. The basic premise is: You and several other sinful souls are dragged out of Hell in order to defend Heaven from a demonic invasion. The best preforming slayer will get to stay in Heaven until the next invasion.
As a newly recruited assassin, you and several of your friends from your previous life need to navigate thru the demonic hordes and find a way out of Hell permanently. And this is one major thing I hate about the game, the characters. Every character I interacted with has a single personality trait and that's their whole existence. Yellow's the dumb comic relief, Violet's obsessed with killing, Red's mysterious/mischievous, etc. Every conversation with them revolves around those topics and it's never fun.
The only reaction I had to most of them was: I'll kill you/leave you if I get the chance. The only reason to interact with them is to progress the plot or to unlock bonus stages.
If you wish to buy the game, wait for a sale because the gameplay is fun but it's the only thing that will keep you occupied.
