RPCS3 - Graphical improvements in Uncharted 2-3 & The Last of Us
The three biggest AAA Naughty Dog games, Uncharted 2-3 and The Last of Us are now much closer to being considered Playable thanks to kd-11 fixing intense vertex flickering issues with these titles that previously looked like they could cause an epileptic seizure. This was done by fixing decoding of legacy TRIANGLE_FAN and POLYGON modes when primitive restart is enabled. While Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us still have some big graphical issues, Uncharted 2 looks near perfect in the areas that we were able to test at least.
One of our contributors Whatcookie recently created a special patch to disable inbuilt MLAA in The Last of Us Which allows for the use of Resolution Scaling, and greatly improves performance! (around ~5fps). You can find the new patch via RPCS3's patch manager (click "Manage" then "Game Patches"). Keep in mind that the Last of Us and Uncharted 2-3 are still quite unstable.
This footage had to be recorded at 720p since these games didn't work with resolution scaling at the time of recording due to their inbuilt MLAA implementation. This can be resolved by the patch we mentioned above which was released afterwards. We only upscaled the output to 1080p for YouTube bandwidth reasons, so the quality is not as good as our usual videos.
