RPG Maker Let's Play - Project Compass and Riahura - Game Critique
#rpgmaker #rpgmakermv #rmmv
Hello everyone! In this RPG Maker Let's Play we play not one but two games: Project Compass by Caerule and Riahura by Hyblitz. This is our last video for a few weeks, as we're going out of town, so please enjoy!
The first game, Project Compass, has a pretty interesting story and a solid opening with humor (although it needs more music, those long stretches of silence do not work. However, the game breaks down very quickly in the first dungeon with absolutely terrible balancing--we cause very little damage without consuming MP (which there is no viable way to recover) and the enemies cause way too much damage. The premise of the game is cool, but it needs a lot more work by the developer.
Then we turn our focus on Riahura... and wow... this game is amazing. It was very difficult to critique, as everything about it is so good. To put it in Teal's words, the game is very organic, everything just comes together to make an amazing experience. The only thing we can think of is that RPG Maker is not the engine for Riahura. It needs to be in a pixel precision engine, not one that is tole based in its hit detection. Developer, please switch this to something like Unity 2D or Gamemaker.
See you all in a few weeks!
