Hey everyone! In this Game Maker Studio Let's Play, we look at the wonderfully entertaining and skillfully crafted "Virgo Versus the Zodiac" by Moonana, published by Degica Games. Thank you so much for the review copy of this game... we really appreciate it!

Overall, this is one of the most, if not the most, polished games we have ever critiqued, with an amazing artistic flair, a style about the mapping and UI, an engaging story, adorable characters, and in-depth game-play. Very well done.

Other developers, take heed how this game handles the appearance of its menus and the various UI elements. The small "pops" and "jolts" into place give this game an awesome sense of style that most games we critique don't have.

Also, the developer nails the mythology of Western Astrology in a way that is both flattering and hilarious (Virgo's faults, for example, are spot-on). For the two of us, who have studied such topics, it was refreshing for someone to "get it right."

There are a few glaring flaws we saw in the three hours that we played, and we believe that these flaws need to be fixed across the board.

First off, the game doesn't apply what it teaches you in the first level when fighting the first boss. You are taught to defend, counter with attacks, powers, and stomps, as well as use strategy. However, the first boss battle was nothing more than a "Defend and Counter" battle, where our success was dictated by how good we were at the attack and defend QTEs.

The second is that there is no conceivable way to change equipment mid-battle, and we completely disagree with that. In fact, when you combine this issue with the first one, the Boss Battle against Capricorn was high-stress with low-enjoyment. This needs to be fixed.

Lastly, the dialogue in many (if not most) of the cut-scenes meanders way too much, going in circles and accomplishing very little in the way of story movement or character development. The two biggest offenders was the scene with Masked Star and Ginger, and then the Zeppelin scene with Pisces and Virgo. The scene writing needs a significant overhaul.

However, those three issues aside, the game is extremely fun and when everything is addressed, we want to play it to completion. Good job, developers, on making what is an amazingly awesome and fun game.
