Runescape Branches of Darkmeyer part 8 of 8 Vanstrom
Disclaimer: This is more a video journal than a walkthrough.
To survive the fight, you need your Vyre disguise (to enter the house),
great armour (to resist mage and/or melee damage), one of the blisterwood weapons (to use stakes, get more wood from the arboretum to make more), and high healing food (like rocktail). You probably want a beast of burden to hold extra food. I doubt familiar attacks effect Vanstrom (kyatt special didn't hurt him), so it's better to have a beast of burden.
Also, take a dip in the Orge hot springs or have a super energy restore to avoid taking damage from blood bombs.
A super set or extreme potions are also not a bad idea.
REMEMBER THE HOLY WATER!
If you die, your gravestone will appear outside his house. Your Darkmeyer disguise, your blisterwood, holy water, and the Drakan amulet will always be kept at death (but I put the amulet in the bank to be better safe than sorry).
When you first enter his home, attack Harold the bloodveld with blisterwood or splash it with holy water to use something else. When he is dead, you can either continue to Vanstrom, or top yourself off with a super set or a trip to the Orge hotsprings. Prayers don't work against his special attacks, so use stat altering prayers or curses to maintain a strong offensive.
Click through Vanstrom's dialogue or you will get kicked out the room. He primarily attacks with melee but uses magic if you're out of range. The blisterwood weapons hit often and have the potential to do bonus damage.
When dealt enough damage, he will enter his true form. At this point, things can get scary.
He has four special moves.
The first is his blood bomb. He will teleport you to the center of the room and summon cursed blood at your feet. The blood will magically detonate causing heavy damage. To reduce damage and/or possibly lure him into his own trap, run to a wall and/or pass some pillars.
The second is his summoned darkness. To avoid taking high damage, run to a wall making sure you are not facing him. The attack can hit twice if you fail to react at all.
Both of the above attacks can potentially hit in the 400s, so keep your LPs high.
His third move is the summoning of two bloodvelds. He will feed and heal off them so kill them quickly. Not a dangerous move; just annoying.
The fourth special thing he likes to do is take flight and spam blood bombs. Luckily, he won't teleport you onto them. He will however will occassionaly use ice magic, but the effect is short so you should be able to run away from any blood spot he sets. While he is flying, his defense is lowered to the point that any blisterwood attack is a guaranteed hit.. Try hitting him while he's flying when a blood mark is far away from him, but be ready to run away after your hit lands because he will most likely set another one below him.
Keep attacking and doing your best to outrun his special attacks. Eventually (like when he hits 10% LP), he will enter a vapor form. If he passes the vaporization threshold while he is in flight mode, he will stop taking damage. Stop trying to land hits and focus on running; when he lands again, try to hit him to force him into vapor mode.
As a vapor, he will do fast magic damage when floating near you. The only way to hurt him at this point is to spill holy water (which is done simply by left-clicking the bottle). The spill will cover a large area, and he will take damage from the puddle as long as he is floating over it.
Eventually, he will run out of lifepoints due to holy damage and be knocked into his physical form. In a last ditch effort, he sacrifices himself and uses blood magic to summon a high leveled pack of Bloodvelds and do sever damage on you (don't worry, his finale won't kill you).
Vanescuela will appear to save you from the Bloodvelds. Her shriek is her most powerful attack since it hits all targets, but all her attacks are strong, and Dart is effective if enemies are lined up.
Afterward, you awake in the Myreque base. Speak with Vertida and he will ask you to report to Veliaf in Burgh De Rott. Teleport to the town and speak with him to finish the quest.
