Ryu most realistic TOD openers Super Street Fighter II X... Read info...
Another video to go along with a video I made awhile back discussing the supposed "random" factor of old Street Fighter games. As I discussed and then well obviously eventually made that first video earlier. In many situations you can think of your attacks actually being as hards do the most damage and mediums do the most stun. This is what can lead to some confusion as to just how random the game is. Because a stun is not straight across the board what you might think in terms of common sense at least. Obviously there is a slight random factor to moves but again in many situations mediums actually do more stun than hard attacks...
Using this knowledge here are a couple of Touch Of Death openers if you were to take the risk of anticipating a opening fireball. First is against sim. Now you could do jump mk, isntead of jump hp. However jump mks hit box although will beat fireball. It loses to yoga flame as ryus back leg will get hit. And obviously yoga flame is a much more realistic opener for sim than a straight up fireball. Of course we dont want to do a stand or duck fierce when we land either because that will give us less stun. And of course blue fireball actually does more stun than a red fireball.
This combo here should dizzy a good 40% or more of the time. Now if you were to do a jump mk to open this would dizzy every 50% of the time or so(and note if ken vs sim a jump medium, to medium, to hurricane kick is actually probably a 80% chance of dizzying or more)but again its not realistic at the end of the day. Remember that sim is big so you could actually choose to do a cross up to duck mp, mk then hurricane kick/fireball or duck mp, duck hp, fireball. But those actaually at the end of the day tend to do just as much as jsut straight up stand hp, hp dp. And HP dp has a better random factor in terms of damage so I feel this is the best choice.
Now of course if this didnt dizzy remember the next hit should dizzy no matter what it is almost 100% of the time, so you will win with a trade now. Keep this in mind..
Against other fireball characters this knowledge isnt quite as useful, as even with a jump in mk vs another fireball character your dizzy rate is maybe 30% at best. So damage and knock down is probably the better option...
The sagat combo is a not quite realistic but doable TOD opener if sagat opens with a low tiger shot. Which is very possible of course. However I did this one in the hyper version of the game just to make it easier to tape because well in that game you get one extra frame to combo. And as many know the orginal ST can skip a frame. So this opener you actually have to walk forward a bit and time perfectly and hope for a bit of luck. But if it hits ive never seen it not dizzy. So basically using the fact that low fireball, allows ryu to combo into his rush fierce...
So there you go probably the 2 most realistic TOD openers for ryu in super turbo.
