This is a single-segment speed run of the character Red of Saga Frontier. This was done on a PS2, SCPH-30001. The fast disk option was used. The controller model used was SCPH-10010. This was recorded with a DVD recorder. While this run excludes use of the Junk Shop bug, I have little doubt that the fastest route in general would avoid a trip to Scrap.

Over the course of the run 8 unplanned battles were accepted. Probably two of those could have been dodged without that much effort. In terms of dodging the high point of this run was managing to complete the CTC Building with only one non-mandatory battle.

Red vs. Shuzer could have been played a bit more efficiently. If you watched my full game run, you'll probably remember that I used Vitality Rune in this battle. During this run I avoided a trip to Devin altogether, however, I purchased two Power Cures in Koorong that I never used. My original strategy involved hoping that Red's Buckler worked in my favor, but I was so far ahead that I decided to play rather cautiously and attack/cure/attack/cure/attack/cure if necessary. (Necessary=if Shuzer had used MachineVulcan repeatedly)

Playing from power-on thanks to the RNG is a bit of a disadvantage. I pretty much consigned myself to a fate in which I would get the battle with the BlueFighters in the Backstreets. Encountering them is related to the fortune bytes, and as long as I do not enter and exit the port of Devin, I don't really alter the values there, so the battle is inevitable. But I prefer playing from power-on as it more or less puts everyone on an even RNG playing field.

A more luck reliant route would either obtain the Magatama with Red only, or for the more reckless an even more luck reliant route would obtain the ability Windblast from the Sphinx and would avoid the Magatama altogether. The former doesn't save as much time as you would think, but it is faster The latter method saves even more time but has a less that 1/16 chance of occurring, but honestly, some rather improbable things happened to me this run, so I am not above it. Do it if you have lots of time on your hands.

Outside of a more luck reliant route, some of the menu manipulation could be improved.
Cotton should probably have been moved to position one of the first party at least during the Backstreet menu, saving some inputs. The menu prior to Berva was, erm, special as well.

Minimum turns for longer mandatory battles:
Armopilla: 4 if DoubleSlash is sparked.
Sphinx: 1
Platyhooks and Platoonpi: 2 (1 turn for each)
Berva: 3 if at least Heaven/Hell is sparked and you get some initiative value luck
MBlack: 1
Arachne: 1 (at least Heaven/Hell is needed along with initiative value luck)
Cyclops: 1 if the OctopusBoard happens to be dropped by either Berva or Arachne (not
likely at all)
Shuzer: 1
Shuzer (solo): 3 if you get a really great sword skill (Headwind, TripleThrust,
TurbidCurrent, DeadEnd with sufficiently high STR, etc.)
MBlackII: 1 if either Rabbit or BJ&K has ShootingMastery and if you get some luck with
initiatives
BlackX: 1 is possible but you will once again need good sword skills and some luck
Shuzer: 1
Berva: 1
Arachne: 1
MBlackIII: 3 is possible with extreme luck (CombatMastery on EngineerCar,
ShootingMastery on at least one of the other mecs, luck with initiative values)
BossX: 2 is possible with extreme luck CombatMastery on EngineerCar,
ShootingMastery on at least one of the other mecs, luck with initiative values)
