In this video I unbox and review my new Sans Digital TowerRaid TR4UTBPN 4-BAY USB 3.0 / eSATA Hardware STorage W/ RAID 0, 1, 1+0, 3, 5 & Clone. This awesome enclosure is the easiest RAID solution I've ever used, you simply insert your drives (I used 2 - 3GB Western Digital RED drives) and power the unit on and press a button and it will create the RAID internally and manage it so the array shows up on the computer as a single drive.

The enclosure also comes with software that allows you to fine tune the raid and make more complex configurations but it's not required. The drive can also be disconnected from USB 3.0 and connected to eSATA seamlessly and it comes up with all your data visible.

Also one thing to note is that in eSATA mode the array is much faster (by a huge margin) then when connected USB 3.0 so only use USB 3.0 if that is all you have available but eSATA is the way to go with this bad boy. But it is a nice feature that it works with USB 3.0 so you can plug it into your laptop or another computer quickly to transfer some data.

Purchased it from NewEgg:

The TowerRAID TR4UTBPN is a 4-bay hardware RAID 5 storage tower that utilizes high performance USB 3.0 and eSATA interfaces to provide over 200MB/s in performance. The included USB 3.0 port is backwards compatible with widely available USB 2.0 ports, which is a convenient feature when both USB 3.0 and eSATA connections are unavailable.

With built-in RAID 0, 1, 10, 3, 5 with hot-spare and JBOD, the TR4UTBPN provides hardware RAID redundancy protection against hard drive failures. A brand new RAID mode, CLONE or N-Way Mirror, is also introduced to replicate the saved data throughout each installed hard drive. The RAID engine is embedded within the enclosure and performs all RAID parity calculation to reduce CPU utilization from the host PC. RAID controller cards are unnecessary. The TR4UTBPN is the ultimate RAID storage for all storage needs.

PREMIUM PERFORMANCE
Featuring eSATA and USB 3.0 interface as well as built-in hardware RAID technology, the 4-bay SANS DITITAL TR4UTBPN achieves over 200MB/s read and 170MB/s write performance.

RAID SUPPORT
The SANS DIGITAL TR4UTBPN boasts hardware RAID support, including RAID 0, 1, 10, 3, 5, JBOD, Clone and hot spare disk for better performance and data integrity. The new Clone mode (N-Way Mirror) - all the hard drives connected will be mirrored - is especially useful when users would like to copy data from one hard drive to several hard drives at the same time.

RICH FEATURES
The automatic insertion/removable detection and rebuild allow easy management. Hardware RAID with standard interface enables easy application with no extra drivers or additional RAID controller required. The protective ventilating cover ensures efficient cooling for better reliability and stability.
