For over 3 years now actress Tisha Custodio has worked alongside Saving Our Daughters, a nonprofit connecting young women of color with celebrity godparents to talk about important issues like mental health and self-confidence.

Recently, Tisha was joined by her 'Cinderella’ Aishah for a day of fun at The Grammy Museum in downtown Los Angeles. Together, the duo bonded over their shared love of music as well as their struggles with anxiety and depression for ABC Localish’s newest mini-series Girls Supporting Girls: How Saving Our Daughters is Battling Mental Health Stigma.

This series highlights dynamic duos across the country who were paired together by Saving Our Daughters to facilitate positive conversations around mental health, self-confidence and resilience during tough times.
"I love talking about my mental health experience and like my journey with it because it's been such a rocky experience but it’s also led me to such growth in my life," Tisha explained. "I suffer from depression and anxiety and I’m not afraid to like show the world that like, hey, I struggle with these things but I’m also like achieving my goals and achieving my dreams and putting myself out there."

From gratitude journals to songwriting, Tisha and Aishah discussed the methods they use to take care of themselves and their mental health.

"Like just writing to yourself, it really helps," Aishah said. "That and also like, talking to yourself like in the mirror. Words of affirmation."

"It’s been a pleasure to do this because every time I look at girls like Tisha, coming from the industry, to like literally reach their hand back to the community and say hey, this is what I’m going through, this is how I’m coping or this is what I’m doing to heal," said Amen Oyiboke, the LA Program Director for Saving Our Daughters. "And I think that for me, this just like literally makes me know I’m doing something right in the world."

Watch new episodes of Girls Supporting Girls: How Saving Our Daughters is Battling Mental Health Stigma every Friday this September.
