This small business is spreading joy through house plants
9House plants started off as a hobby for Springfield, Missouri resident Tasha Adams. She was working at a bank while simultaneously caring for her three young children when she realized something needed to change.
She wanted to maintain her own stream of income but also wanted a job that she was truly passionate about and that allowed her to spend more time with her family at home. That’s when she started purchasing plants online and turning them for profit.
"I would get a house plant and learn everything I could about it," she says. "I would propagate it, and then I would let it grow, and then I would sell it."
Adams realized she had a gift for plant care and soon it became apparent that this could become a full-time job for her. Before taking the step to opening a brick-and-mortar location, she purchased a small trailer. She loaded it up with plants and turned it into a mobile plant shop!
"The rest is history," Adams says. Hickory Lane Plants now has a permanent location at 1938 S Glenstone Ave # D in Springfield, Missouri.

"I never thought I would be a business owner and I kind of looked at this as a hobby and not a job," she says. "The long-running joke was that this was a 'jobby,’ a hobby-job. So it really turned from a love and a passion into, I wouldn’t even call it work because it’s that much fun."
