Say No To Client Journalism
Have you ever noticed that journalists seem to just be repeating things they're told and asking really stupid questions? And that their "mistakes" always seem to favour one side over another? Well this video tries to explain one of the causes behind that, client journalism.
In this video I try to define client journalism by using the analogy of the Roman system of patronage, where I try desperately not to go off on a tangent about HBO's Rome. I then specifically talk about individuals who have done client journalism, including the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg, the Daily Mirror covering for the decaying ham Keir Starmer and a little look at some sportswashing. Finally I try to figure out if we can solve it and where we might take inspiration from in order to fix the issue of client journalism.
