The Sega Mega Drive Or Genesis collection as it’s known in the united states is a collection of 16 bit classics from Sega and is available on the xbox one, playstation 4, steam and soon to be available on the Nintendo switch.
The game is a series compilation featuring some of Segas well know video games including alex kidd in the enchanted castle, alien soldier, alien storm, altered beast, the original bio – hazard (nope not that one), bonaza bros and the awesome kid chameleon.
The title boasts over 50 classic games
Despite the nostalgia factor I did find that the game itself has a little lag its weird as the game itself is an emulation at best there is some lag showing that each game is a straight port with each copy being almost identical to the previous version.
The game does hold unique features such as an online multiplayer mode and an ability to save to an online leader board.
The real selling point of this game is nostalgia, having the ability to play all these awesome titles in one package I will say that as a streets of rage fan this isn’t the best version of the game as streets of rage remix holds itself heads and shoulders above the any port including the one held in this collection.
Is the sega mega drive classics collection worth the money?
Currently priced at 22.99 new and 30 pounds on the Nintendo switch I wouldn’t see a reason to pick this offering up but if you are a purist who can do without trophy hunting and online play then you can always go to the original hardware to play all these titles if you don’t mind parting with a slew of cash.
Now as always I give the sega megadrive classics collection a decent 3.5 out of 5 but I would suggest anyone willing to make the purchase to wait until the price goes down so you can purchase or buy this offering preowned as the 23 pound price isn’t worth it for the lag and lack of replay value of this title, I certainly wouldn’t buy this for the switch in its current condition.
