8 Bit Armies PS4 Review | A Rather British Review
88 bit armies is a command and conquer like real time strategy game developed by petroglyph games and originally released on the 22nd April 2016 for windows platforms and recently released on the playstation 4, and xbox one platforms, the game is due for a release on the Nintendo switch.
The game mirrors the classic RTS genre and features a single player campaign which does a lot of hand holding, 8 bit armies takes a very simplistic approach in its gameplay and graphical elements mimicking the appearance of Minecraft and roblocks but with abit more sharpish look.
The retro art vox style look with a terrain that is practically destructible.
Similar to command and conquer the player starts with a headquarters that can be expanded into several elements such as an army barracks, mine for resources, the more resources you gain the more you can expand your vehicles and units that can be used to crush your enemies, one of the games benefits is that you can grab two free digital downloads to increase the in game factions.
The negatives comes in games simplistic stance having a limited amount of troops and structures and lack of ability to take over your enemy basis such as in command and conquer red alert.
What I will say is that the game seems to be a work in progress which is fine for what it is I just hope the next instalment will bring about a bigger build of a game which has 6 hours + gameplay with single player faction and can probably be extended with multiplayer skirmishes.
And as always I rate my games between a 1 and a 5 with 1 being the worst and 5 being the best I give 8 bit armies and astonishing 3
A fun nostalgic kick but needs a lot more before it can be considered a successor to a franchise that was considered the height or RTS.
But I will say with what the game lacks it certainly is enjoyable to say the least but just wait until it drops in price before you consider to grab this indie title.
