Self-Powered Phosphorus Refiner! Sandbox Showcase #14 (ONI: Spaced Out!)
19Welcome to Sandbox Showcase! In this series, I talk about various problems in Oxygen Not Included and how I've solved them with my own designs in previous streamed and non-streamed runs, by building them in Sandbox mode.
In this video, I talk about a method for converting Phosphorite Ore into Refined Phosphorus that you can use in your Geotuners. There's no machine for this so you have to cook Phosphorite up to 247° C to melt it and then cool it back down to 41° C to condense it. Thankfully the heat capacity of Phosphorite increases from 0.15 to 0.77 when it melts into Phosphorus, so this generates a lot of extra energy that you can use to preheat your Phosphorite. Using an Thermo Aquatuner, I get the initial heat to melt the Phosphorite, then I use Steam Turbines to cool it down to 125° C for extra power, and then I use the Aquatuner to cool it the rest of the way to condensation. Thanks to some help from @cristinaaugegiribet1236, we were able to get it self-powered by preheating the Phosphorite using the entire Liquid Phosphorus layer when the most conductive standard materials are used. This build can handle a high throughput of 10 kg/s, is relatively easy to construct/maintain with your dupes, and usually fails/deactivates in a safe way, with plenty of automation controls.
