You can actually talk to king frost earlier and he'll have a casual chat but once you go for the fish it's time to fight.

He uses very strong ice magic that can tear you to pieces if you aren't careful but he waits until about half health to start using it.

My advice is to use jack frost once he starts channeling that magatsuhi so you can use Ice block. It completely shuts him down.

Afterwards I choose to spare him because he isn't hurting anyone and he's just guarding his friends memory.
