We’ve already seen the use of CGI and human actors to recreate deceased actors and their characters in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. Peter Cushing’s Grand Moff Tarkin and Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia were the obvious examples of this coming out of Rogue One with Fisher getting even more CGI work done in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ as “Space Leia”. Now we hear from ‘The Last Jedi’ VFX supervisor Ben Morris in an interview with Inverse that they “will always [digitally] scan all the lead actors in the film. We don’t know if we’re going to need them. We don’t intentionally scan them as an archive process. It’s for reference later.” This will undoubtedly send shockwaves through the Star Wars fan base at the possibility of this scanning of characters and actors faces being taken to the next level. If we can recreate scenes with Grand Moff Tarkin that were received more positively than most expected then how far away are we from the possibility of a CGI/human combo for a Luke Skywalker or Princess Leia or Han Solo movie occurring between ‘Return of the Jedi’ and ‘The Force Awakens’?

John Rocha and Mark Reilly sit down to give you their reactions to this shocking news and offer their thoughts on how far these special effects productions teams are willing to go to bring these characters back to life in a future Star Wars movie. They also discuss if maybe the fan base as it gets younger is less precious about this possibility and more of a fan of it happening.
