I'm not sure why, but the brief hiatus I took between finishing Mischief Makers and starting Alundra felt a lot longer than it should've. After all, I really only took Thursday off from streaming. Maybe it's because I finally managed to wrap up another project in the interim... or it could just be because out of the games in my main line-up of streams for 2023, Alundra is clearly going to be the longest. Either way, it feels nice to sink my teeth into something a little more substantial this time around.

I don't know if you've noticed the pattern I follow when it comes to my nominations for these streams. I tend to focus mainly on games that I "missed out on", either by way of not following up on any interest I would've had in them at the time they came out... or simply because I've heard so many people regard it as a "hidden gem" after the fact. While Mischief Makers was a case of the former, the latter applies to Alundra. It also doesn't hurt that I tend to be interested in so-called "Zelda clones" from fourth and fifth-gen, likely due to the fact that they were more likely to be inspired by the classic top-down gameplay of ALttP and Link's Awakening (hey, wait a second...) as opposed to the style popularized by Ocarina of Time.

Alundra is definitely an interesting game, though I have to admit, the game's opening felt a bit abrupt more than anything. But I guess given the nature of the story, that was a necessary evil. That being said, KI has warned me that the story gets bleaker as it continues... and considering the fact that I literally failed to save a single miner from a monster ambush, I have to wonder how bad it's going to get. Good thing I've got Working Designs' classic writing to diffuse any tension, "you know what I am saying"?
