Skip Barber Challenge Trophy | 2023 | Rounds 15 & 16 | Gilles Villeneuve | iRacing
Tonight marks Rounds 15 and 16 of the 2023 Skip Barber Challenge Trophy as brought to you on iRacing; hosted by Gone Skippin’ Racing and sponsored by Musical Money with the aim of keeping the Skippy alive!
For this pair of rounds the paddock heads to Canada for the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Named after the legendary Canadian Formula One driver, the Montreal city circuit is unique in its nature as a hybrid street circuit which utilises the roadways of Parc Jean-Drapeau.There is a natural feel to the course with its 14 corners involving a variety of chicanes and hairpins as separated by numerous straights. However, this is contrasted by run-off areas being limited and barriers ever-close to the course. As a result, this track is deceptively tricky to master as its layout makes it a power circuit where even the smallest of mistakes can be race-ending; especially at the infamous “Wall of Champions” on the exit of the final corner!
In the drivers’ championship, Nathan Wade’s continued consistency in Japan last week has seen him increase his lead to a staggering 199 points over Steffen Herrmann. Should this continue tonight, Wade could be on course to taking the championship crown in Germany next week. Meanwhile, it is likely that Herrmann’s focus shall be split between chasing Wade and keeping Adam Miles behind as, following his back-to-back victories at Okayama, Miles is now third and only nine points behind Hermann. However, with Miles’ recent form seeing him take four victories in six rounds, Herrmann shall be hard pressed to stall Miles’ momentum!
How will our drivers get on in the city of Montreal? Tune in and find out!
