Skip Barber Challenge Trophy | 2023 | Rounds 5 & 6 | Bathurst | iRacing
Tonight marks Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2023 Skip Barber Challenge Trophy as brought to you on iRacing; hosted by Gone Skippin’ Racing and sponsored by Musical Money with the aim of keeping the Skippy alive!
For tonight’s pair of rounds our drivers venture across the Pacific Ocean for their first visit to Australia with Mount Panorama Raceway playing host. Known more commonly as “Bathurst” in reference to the mountain on which the circuit is focused, this four mile course is one of a limited number remaining worldwide which is fully composed of public roads dating back to the circuit’s opening in 1938. With a resultantly narrow track surface which tightens to the extreme as our drivers make their way over the mountain, overtaking opportunities shall be limited to the track’s two extended straights which connect the mountain to the start-finish straight. As a result, track position shall be critical to success here!
In terms of the drivers’ championship, Nathan Wade continues to lead by a slightly improved margin of ten points following last week’s races at Sebring. However, with Marc Beckhaus now in second after battling to victory in the Feature and Steffan Hermann a further four points behind in third following a decisive drive to victory in the Sprint, Wade cannot afford to make any major mistakes to stay out in front. Conversely, his pursuers will know they are not alone in their hunt after the championship leader, with Geoff Randall; David Burns and Joan Rodríguez all showing great pace last week.
Who shall be the master of the mountain? Tune in and find out!
