Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 228. Training Montage
We're on the last quest of the Dawnguard questline, and it's time to confront Lord Harkon and end his madness, but for roleplaying purposes he deserves to confront another Vampire Lord at maximum strength. When we left off grinding for vampire perks previously we still had two more to go. All our favorite bandit haunts have respawned now, so it's time to go drain some life blood and get those last two.
Unfortunately we're in a bit of a pickle when it comes to grinding vampire perks. Serana is following us, and during Kindred Judgment we cannot dismiss her as a follower or even make her wait behind. This complicates things in multiple ways. First, it makes our Drain Life spell - which we relied on before when grinding perks - completely useless, since the damage is reduced to 0 while she's a follower. That means the only viable way to kill bandits is in melee mode. That's obviously a lot more dangerous than before, where we could hurl AoE Drain Life spells from a distance. In addition, draining life blood is a lot harder in melee mode. Enemies have to be killed with a power attack after they've gone into kneel-down. It's a very small window, and it's entirely possible (and you can see multiple examples in this video) for Serana to snipe our kill, or even the bats perk we have to finish them off before we get the hit in. That's why you'll see me quicksave when an enemy is getting low on health, to ensure that I get the perk progress on the kill.
We go with our old favorites, starting at Swindler's Den then moving on to Driftshade Refuge. This gets us one perk and most of the way to the second. We finish up by going first to Redoran's Retreat, and then to Halted Stream Camp. We don't even have to go inside the mine there, as the exterior bandits give us the last little bit we need for our final perk. With that done, we are now ready to confront Harkon and prove ourselves the superior Vampire Lord.
