Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 266. Promises to Keep
Last time we finished up The Man Who Cried Wolf, and now we are waiting for the follow-up quest The Wolf Queen Awakened so that we can eventually become Thane of Haafingar and purchase Proudspire Manor. That quest will only start though when we receive a letter from a courier. The unofficial patch we're using however increases the amount of time before the courier appears to start the quest. I did a little testing and we have several days to wait before he'll show up, so we've got time to kill.
Therefore it's time to clear out more quests from the quest log, and today it's the Riften quest Promises to Keep, where we have to steal Frost for Louis Letrush from Black-Briar Lodge. If you haven't guessed already, there's a reason we picked this one in particular. It's because there is a Stone of Barenziah inside Black-Briar Lodge. Yes, our next Master Plan is to finish the longest, most tedious quest in the entire game - No Stone Unturned.
This is also why we're targeting Proudspire Manor as our next house, even though we're a lot closer to becoming Thane of the Rift - there's a Stone inside it as well. And this was also part of our motivation for taking on the College of Winterhold questline, as you have to complete it up to a certain point in order to obtain the Stone inside the Arch-Mage's Quarters.
So here's the situation: we've collected 11 Stones already, so there's 13 more to go. Today and for the next several videos we're going to retrieve all the remaining Stones that aren't tied to questlines. By the time we finish with that we should be able to start The Wolf Queen Awakened, so we'll complete the Haafingar thane questline to get the Stone in Proudspire Manor. At that point there will only be four Stones left.
Three of them are tied to progress in Thieves Guild quests - two of them to city reputation quests and the third to the main questline. So from here we'll go ahead and finish everything Thieves Guild-related. Once we're done with that, the last remaining Stone is the one in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, so we'll get that questline started, and once we get to that point we'll pause it and finally finish up No Stone Unturned to claim our Prowler's Profit effect, which will enable us to find a ludicrous number of gems throughout the rest of the game. From there of course we'll go ahead and finish out the Dark Brotherhood quests, and then we'll have 100% the quests for all four guilds in the game.
I have a plan for everything else after that, but we've spent enough time for now talking about the future. Returning to the present, we have a new horse to acquire, because of course we're going to double-cross Letrush and take Frost for ourselves.
Heading to Black-Briar Manor, we leave Serana at the road to infiltrate it solo. Now of course you can do this quest by just straight up killing all the Black-Briar Mercenaries, but that is not the Way of the Thief. Instead, we preview how we're going to go about the Thieves Guild quests. With the Detect Life spell in one hand and Invisibility in the other, no guard will ever catch sight of us. We silently stealth past all of them, picking up all the goodies of the Lodge and even picking their pockets along the way. The quest itself is ridiculously easy to finish - if you sneak in the side door, both the papers and Sibbi's chest are in the room to the right and can be reached without worrying about any of the Mercenaries. But we clean the place out top to bottom, and that includes the Stone of Barenziah upstairs.
Once that's done, we hop on Frost outside and are gone before any of the Mercenaries are even aware of it. Rendezvousing with Louis, we double-cross him as mentioned and send him away empty handed. We then head back to the Whiterun Stables to park Frost for the rest of the game, because he might be nice, but we have an undead skeletal horse we can summon at will.
