Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 313. Mzinchaleft Part 1
5Last time we started the next quest in the main Dark Brotherhood questline, Recipe for Disaster. However, while at the Sanctuary we also picked up the next set of side contracts, so we're going to pause the main quest to take care of those first.
The targets this time are Helvard, housecarl of the Jarl of Falkreath, and Maluril, an elven mage exploring the Dwarven ruins of Mzinchaleft. We start with Helvard, and it's a pretty straightforward matter of sneaking in and out of Falkreath and killing him in his sleep. You may recall my PSA from many videos ago that if you haven't already gotten permission to purchase Lakeview Manor from Siddgeir at this point, killing Helvard makes it impossible to do so unless Dengeir takes over as jarl (although the unofficial patch takes care of this problem).
From there we head home to pick up Serana so she can carry our burdens inside yet another Dwemer ruin. We fast travel straight to the Great Lift at Mzinchaleft that we unlocked during our exploration of Blackreach. While trying to reach the actual entrance to the ruin we have a unique world encounter. We run into Saliah, a Dawnguard agent. Since we sided with the Volkihar vampires she's automatically hostile to us, but after cutting off her head we recover both a key and a letter indicating the location of three Dawnguard caches throughout Skyrim, kicking off a mini non-journal quest we'll take care of another day.
The outside of the ruin is thoroughly infested with bandits, so once again we whip out our Bandit-B-Gone bow to fumigate the place. After dealing with them (including one bandit who sadly managed to get trapped inside a wall), we proceed inside, where the first zone is largely all bandits as well. It isn't long before we find Maluril himself, and after talking to him we add another soul to our collection. While I certainly love the stealth kills, I do wish some of these side contracts worked a little differently. Maluril isn't hostile unless you provoke him, so killing him (or Helvard, or most other of the contracts) is pretty trivial. I wish some of them worked more like mini boss battles instead.
After one more room where we get into a three-way battle with bandits and Dwemer automatons we reach the end of the first zone. The next one is quite long itself, so we cut here and will finish up the place next time.
