Having finished up adding Grosh to my Kingdom Rush Vengeance Impossible Hero Challenge, I'm now getting back to some challenges laid down by user @estahifaryce7672. First up is Ancient Necropolis with Rangers only.

As with the other Kingdom Rush challenges I've done lately, it's Ten'shi that makes the impossible possible here. Most important is his ability to do true damage with his basic attack and his Firerush! ability, as this is the primary means of dealing damage to the Spectral Knights who have complete immunity to physical damage. Nearly as important is his ability to teleport, which is absolutely critical for him to get to hotspots on the battlefield as quickly as possible. His crazy health regen combined with the invincibility his Iron Time ability affords also give him the durability needed on a map like this with lots of heavy hitting enemies.

It's not all upside though, unfortunately. While Iron Time is a fantastic ability, he also can only do physical damage while in it, which is a huge pain when you're really needing him to take down Spectral Knights. The loss of teleportation during Iron Time is also a huge hindrance, as he needs to be moving on this map constantly. Still, he's our best shot, and ultimately he gets the job done.

The build here is straightforward - just spam Rangers Hideouts with Wrath of the Forest as fast as possible. You might be thinking Poison Arrows would be a better way to go, since they can in fact damage Spectral Knights since they deal true damage (and yes, it's weird that Zombies are coded to be immune to poison, but ghost units like Spectral Knights are not). However, multiple Wrath of the Forest upgrades are needed not only to deal with the hordes of Skeletons and Zombies, but also to stall Abominations for as long as possible for the towers to take them down. We do add Poison Arrows late in the game once we've got enough Wrath of the Forests going, but honestly it's just not a game changer ability.

This one is all about the micro - getting Ten'shi to the most effective spot on the battlefield at any given time, as well as using reinforcements to group up enemies well for his Firerush! ability and of course Rain of Fire. It was a pretty brutal challenge overall. We manage to get to wave 10 before suffering our first loss, and we end up losing 12 lives total. At several points there are just too many Spectral Knights on the board for Ten'shi to take them all down, even with Poison Arrows and Rain of Fire. Overall it was a really fun challenge though and I'm glad to have done it. A no lives lost version might be possible on Normal, and I'm sure I could clean up my performance to get 10+ lives remaining even on Veteran if I worked on it. But for now I'm content to post this one and move to the next challenge.
