Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 315. Recipe for Disaster
We've got a lot of business to take care of in today's video, and it takes us all the way from one end of Skyrim to the other.
First is wrapping up the Dark Brotherhood side contracts we took care of in the last couple of videos. We first stop by Lakeview Manor to drop off the soul gem containing Maluril's soul, then we're off to the Sanctuary to turn in the actual quests. Nazir presents us with the final side contract - killing captain Safia of the Red Wave.
Next we're off to Markarth for the first part of Recipe for Disaster. We have to get the identity and location of The Gourmet out of the keep's chef, Anton Virane. Virane sings like a bird when threatened, telling us that The Gourmet is an orc staying at the Night Gate Inn. He then charmingly asks if we're going to let him go, which evokes a kind of "Do you see me?" moment a la No Country for Old Men. We claim his soul and it's back to Lakeview once more to drop it off.
Next we're following up on something that happened when we traveled to Mzinchaleft. We had a world encounter with Saliah, who drops both a key and a note indicating the location of three Dawnguard caches throughout Skyrim. The first is in Morthal near the mill, so we travel there and recover the goods.
The second is probably the hardest to find. It just references "the great arch near Winterhold", which might not strike a chord for most players. But on the main road that goes into Winterhold there's a road that branches off to the west and heads up to the glacier where Sarthaal is located. On this road is a giant Nordic arch, and this is what the note refers to. It's certainly noticeable, but not exactly memorable, so I wouldn't blame anyone for needing to look up the solution online.
The third and final cache is serendipitously located at the Nightgate Inn where we're already going for Recipe for Disaster. We loot the strongbox by the pier, which is also where we kill The Gourmet, aka Balagog gro-Nolob, and subsequently hide his body in the water. His Writ of Passage is what will ultimately grant us access to the Emperor.
Our last stop is all the way in Riften, where we turn in Mjoll's quest by giving her her old sword Grimsever. We now can get Mjoll to follow us, which is good because we ultimately need to get her out of Riften, seeing as she is a foe of the Thieves Guild. But that's for another day at this point.
We then return to the Sanctuary one more time to turn in Recipe for Disaster and start the next quest, To Kill an Empire. The plan is that we will impersonate the Gourmet, infiltrate a dinner being giving by the Emperor, and assassinate him there. Astrid gives us Jarrin root to put in the food to poison the Emperor, but we have better plans in mind. Unfortunately it's going to be a little bit before we can act on this plan. We have some other business to wrap up first. The attempt on the Emperor's life starts a chain of events that deserves not to be interrupted, so we need to wrap up some loose ends first, which we'll start next time.
