Previously, Davilas did his last Daedric quest, "The Cursed Tribe", and acquired the Volendrung. He also did a little more work on his homestead near Falkreath, Lakeview Manor. Now, he will explore Valthume, which according to the Greybeards is home to a Word of Power.
Davilas resumes outside of Valthume, a Nord ruin southeast of Markarth. When he enters the Valthume Vestibule, he meets a ghost named Valdar. Valdar warns of a dragon priest named Hevnoraak, an evil entity that may soon escape. Davilas takes on the quest "Evil in Waiting" to defeat Hevnoraak. The first objective is to collect three vessels scattered throughout the dungeon. After Davilas accepts the quest, he can proceed into the ruin.
In the room beyond, Davilas enters Valthume proper. Your typical Nord ruin filled with traps and Draugr.
On one table, there is a copy of the book "Withershins", which increases Restoration when read.
The first vessel Davilas finds is the Opaque Vessel. A Draugr protects it. After taking it from its pedestal, he can proceed deeper into the ruin.
Davilas continues down into the Valthume Catacombs. There are not only more Draugr but also Frostbite Spiders down here.
Upon reaching Level 45, Davilas increases his Health. Under Alteration, he picks up "Apprentice Alteration", which halves the magicka cost of Apprentice-level Alteration spells.
Davilas finds the second Opaque Vessel in a room with Soul Gem traps. Another Draugr protects this vessel.
Eventually, Davilas finds the room with the Iron Claw. Take care when removing it from its pedestal, as it will trigger flamethrower traps. The Iron Claw is used right away to open the door. The combination is Dragon, Eagle, Wolf from top to bottom.
In the room beyond, several Draugr protect the third Opaque Vessel. The Word Wall is also in this room, but the barrier protecting it is only lowered when a heavy object is placed on the Opaque Vessel's pedestal. This Word Wall teaches Davilas "Hunt", the last word of "Aura Whisper". Learning this word concludes the objective to find it. The boss chest is at the base of the Word Wall.
Past this room, Davilas finds another exit to Valthume. After unbarring a door, he makes his way to the first chamber of the zone, the altar room.
Davilas talks to Valdar. Afterwards, Davilas examines a Sconce near the throne to drain the vessels' contents.
When Davilas sits on the throne, the dragon priest Hevnoraak is freed. Davilas must defeat him. Hevnoraak shoots lightning-elemental magic like it's going out of style. This magic drains magicka, so it is best to rely on magic.
After Hevnorak is defeated, Davilas can claim the Hevnoraak mask, which provides immunity to disease and poison, and Hevnoraak's Staff, which shoots lightning-elemental magic.
Afterwards, Davilas talks to Valdar. This concludes "Evil in Waiting".
Davilas backtracks through the Valthume Vestibule and leaves Valthume. He fast-travels to High Hrothgar. When he finally finds Arngeir, Arngeir issues the objective "Find the Word of Power in Skyborn Altar".
Next time, Davilas will check out Volskygge in the northwest.
Thanks for watching!
