Skyrim VR - VR Gameplay PSVR
16Oh boy, here we go...
I was pretty disappointed with Skyrim VR.
There. I said it. It's out there... There is my bias against the PS VR tracking system but that aside Bethesda made some very bad mechanics choices when it came to things like archery, two handed weapon or lockpicking to name a few.
So what's the problem? They didn't pull from what we now know works in VR and implement common solutions. They started from scratch and made the same mistakes Mr. Indie Dev made and learned from a year ago.
Take the bow for example. You can't aim the bow with both hands. The bow hand aims, the arrow hand just pulls the arrow back and fires. It doesn't impact the aim of the bow at all. This is something that has been hashed out already and a company like Bethesda should be one upping the indie devs not making the same mistakes well after a better solution has been found.
Lockpicking. We should be using our hands to move the lockpicks. The system in game now is no different than using a controller. Why play in VR at all at that point? Why not just get Vorpx?
Why can't I swing my two hander like a two handed weapon? Look at Vanishing Realms or Tales of Glory for good two hander implementations...
Right now Skyrim VR is a poorly modded flat game that barely feels like a VR title. My frustrations with the PS VR tracking only add to that discontent.
It's hard to recommend Skyrim VR in its current state especially since we don't know when mods will be supported. On the other side, it's hard to NOT recommend Skyrim VR because it's Skyrim... in VR! Or as close to VR as we're going to get for now.
If you have a PSVR and that's all you have, you're used to the tracking issues so this is probably a must have. If you're a Vive or a Rift player, I'm thinking you're better off holding out until A. it releases on Steam and B. we have mod support so the community can fix Bethesdas poor mechanics choices.
