This is a recording of SMART's brand-new 2021 New Flyer Xcelsior XD60 diesel articulated bus #4011 operating on route 461 FAST Woodward northbound to Troy Park & Ride via Somerset Collection. 5 units have entered services (4 on June 30th; 1 on July 3rd) on 461/462 FAST Woodward and 261 FAST Michigan, while others have yet to enter service on non-FAST routes but will be in a few days or weeks. These units have replaced the 2009 New Flyer DE60LF units: #3001--which was retired on 6/24/18 due to a collison with the street sweeper, and #3002--which was placed into storage in 2020 due to the "you-know-what." This is also SMART's 1st purchase of articulated buses (not counting second-handed buses from DDOT or other transit agencies) since Gillig does not manufacture articulated buses. 23 are in total; 5 have entered service, and more will be entering non-FAST routes in a few days or weeks.
