Super Mario Sunshine 2(kind of)!

As everyone knows, every YouTube channel needs a playthrough of Super Mario Sunshine, and the entire base game is playable with all the Eclipse addons besides Luigi/Piantissimo as mid-late game content, so I'll be focusing on going through the base game first after this episode. You might want to come back in 5 or so videos once I figure out how to play again and get to the new content if you only care about the Eclipse additions.

Hopefully I've FINALLY figured out acceptable microphone filter settings with my jank recording setup. I will have more focused episodes after this, this is mostly just an introduction to the mod and some of the features. And yes, I did manage to figure out the Kinikick like a fourth of the way through the series, and some other tech like Spinjump buffers(not very good at them though). Also, I'm going to apologize in advance. I have a habit of trying to do things in unintended ways just to see if I can. This is a 100% run btw!

Rundown of changes:

Hover Nozzle is even better now. It has a Hover Burst option by clicking A after Rtrigger that acts as a mini extra jump, which is insanely useful. It can also be used while diving more effectively, both on the ground and the air. The only nerf is the speed gain you get on slanted surfaces by hovering up them(but this usually doesn't come up that often, so no big deal),

Blaster Nozzle has a few more moves by pressing B/dive as it goes off for more horizontal movement, but is overall pretty much the same.

Turbo Nozzle is so fun now! Extra height on spin jumps out of it(and you can ground pound out of them!), and with an analog controller, you can adjust how fast you go with it, so you can take turns and curves, or jump/spin jump off smaller platforms with it. Honestly, I was stubbornly trying to get Turbo Nozzle to work multiple times throughout this run when the other two nozzles would work better because it was so fun!

Lot of new moves now. I absolutely forgot the long jump existed even after doing the tutorial for the first few episodes. Then I started using it ALL THE TIME in later videos. It's pretty good!

Yoshi can be gotten right away as a base "Green" Yoshi and no longer is on a timer. Now the juice level is similar to FLUDD and will run out. Green Yoshi can also swim(other Yoshi's will phase into the Aether like normal)!

There are now 120 new Shine Sprites to get in various levels, including 4 main zones I don't want to spoil in the first video if someone wanted to play through it, and a lot of smaller specialty/hub worlds, or "mini worlds" as I like to call them, and all featuring new songs/themes, even some new mechanics. There's also a bit of content after 240 shines.

These new Shines are also found in "connection" areas, where various levels connect to one another. They are quite beautiful and fit right in. Some areas you need to pass through to get to the new Eclipse content, so exploration is encouraged!

And a whole bunch of QoL. No more menu opening on picking up blue coins(toggleable) asking you to save each time. A lot of Shine Sprites don't even kick you out of the area anymore, so you can get several Shine Sprites per visit to a location as long as those Shines don't drastically change the level layouts. Mostly 100 coin and red coin Shine's, but others are obtainable during pretty much all the other chapters without needing to restart the level! These are carryover QoL changes from the teams previous project Super Mario Sunshine: Sunburn that they've included in Eclipse. Camera will still fight you through, just kind of how SMS is, but at least all the ground and skyboxes around each level will now include the other levels within sight, which is honestly a REALLY COOL thing.

I'll leave it there and encourage anyone to put time into the game to get a feel for the controls as they're quite wonky at first, a byproduct of the times. I think SM:Sunshine is a game where you get back as much as you put in, and learning even basic mechanics that the official game manual doesn't tell you is a lot of fun, especially if you like experimenting. While the movement systems in later Mario 3D platformers are way more polished and streamlined, I always feel they kind of went away from all the experimental stuff. Just look at all the different Spin Jumps you can do in this game from speedrunners like AverageTrey. So many goofy ways to break the game too by abusing slanted ledges or clipping through the map.
