Soldiers sentenced in gun smuggling plot 25.01.13
Three Germany-based serving soldiers and a former colleague have been sentenced to between seven and a half and 14 years in prison for their part in an international gun and drugs smuggling operation.
Police discovered the plot when 22-year-old Trave Dyce, of the Queen's Royal Hussars was arrested by police along with former colleague, 26-year-old Lemar Loveless as the pair tried to enter the UK via the Euroshuttle from Calais.
Police found a Walther and Luger and three converted Italian pistols, silencers, 74 rounds of ammunition and cocaine with a street value of £72,000 in the BMW cars the pair were driving.
Duran Wright 28 of the Royal Logistic Corps and Lance Laurent, 26 of the Queen's Royal Hussars were subsequently linked to the smuggling operation and arrested in Germany, with the assistance of the Royal Military Police.
Trave Dyce was sentenced to a total of seven and a half years, Duran Wright to 10 years, Lance Laurent to 12 years and Lemar Loveless, who the judge described as the ringleader, to 14 years.
The MOD says it won't comment on individual cases, but has confirmed that those men still in the army will be dismissed.
