Sonic Adventure DX (Gamecube) Gameplay
I must confess, no matter how history looks at it, nor how modern sensibilities look at it, I have always, and will always love Sonic Adventure. I am well aware of it's technical issues and flaws, but man, I still love this game. I remember seeing screenshots of the DC version in magazines in 1998, and my eyes melting. When I got my DC in the year 2000, this and Crazy Taxi were the first two games I owned for it, and finally just seeing Sonic Adventure in motion was a sight to behold. The game looked amazing, and ran so fast. I instantly fell in love with the game...except for Big the Cat's missions, I hated that one, but I love the rest of the game.
Sonic Adventure DX on the Gamecube is a port of the original with a few upgrades to the game, but nothing major. Graphically, there weren't any improvements from what I can tell. It looks a little different to me from the DC version, but then again, the most recent version I have played was the PS3 port, and it's been a while since I have booted up the DC version, so maybe it looks different to me from the PS3 port. It still looks good, but is lacking that bright, and beautiful DC color pallet.
Other than that, they added an extra mission mode, and the Chao Garden to the DX version. Other than that, they didn't improve the camera or other technical issues of the DC orginal. They just kind of copy and pasted the DC game here, which is a good thing if you ask me. They probably should have fixed a few issues with the camera in particular, but they didn't. It is what it is, and what it is is still a fantastic example of why the Dreamcast was such a breath of fresh air in gaming at the time.
I'm obviously blinded by my nostalgia on this game, but as I said, I have always, and will always love this game. People can hate on it all they want, but I don't care, I will always love it...except for Big the Cat's missions.
Note: I am using the Nintendo Wii to play this in progressive scan mode, through the Wii component cables.
