Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - (Sega Master System) - 1/1
The only comparisons to Sonic 2 on the Megadrive is the fact Tails is in it, but he's not even playable. He's been kidnapped by Robotnik. You're reminded of Tails' existance on the preloader screens every level. It's similar to Sonic 1 on the SMS. It's about the same difficulty level I would say, but there are more different obstacles to become aquainted with. Like the Gliders, the Bubbles, the Tubes and the Metal Wheels that spin.
Considering I've never played much of this Sonic (the first boss annoyed the hell out of me before), I found the bosses quite easy on the whole, easier than the SMS Sonic 1, and I've played the GG port of that several times.
The Emeralds are slightly trickier to obtain though. A lot of these require specific detail of timed jumps for example, so I'll just give a vague guide. They're all in Act 2 though by the way (apart from the final one which is from the 6th boss), as opposed to Sonic 1 which varied.
The first emerald you need to stay high, and in the mine carts. You need to jump out of them after they leave the rail, but before they start falling. You'll need to do two timed jumps to end up at the top right of the level where the emerald is.
I might be remembering this wrong, but did the Game Gear port of the first boss have the balls dropping at various heights and speeds?
The second Emerald has two ways to get it. I show the quicker, but somewhat more difficult way to get it. There are 'plus sign' shaped clouds with hidden springs early in the level. You need to jump from one to the next and then up and right to the emerald. The 'easier' way is to grab a Glider and let the wind take you up to it.
The third is a VERY easy one to find. You'll enter a portion where you're pulled along by some tubes underwater. Hold left and you'll end up by the Emerald.
The fourth is another easy one. After a spike pit you'll see some springs on a platform above you. Head left of the spike pit to some more springs, use these to land on the springs you saw on the elevated platform and propel yourself to the right to find the fourth emerald.
The fifth is easy to miss, but isn't hard to obtain either. Near the beginning of the level you'll be walking up what resembles the tracks the carts go on. At the top a Burrowbot will pop out and you'll see some spinning wheels. Head left and jump through the fake wall. Along this path is the 5th Emerald. If you want to see the bad ending, which is rather depressing for a Sonic game, make a second save before grabbing the Emerald, as the 6th will be gained automatically on the next level after beating Silver Sonic, provided you have the other 5.
