Final Fantasy III NES - Part 20: The Crystal Tower
Part 20/22 in my Final Fantasy III - NES walkthrough.
The enemies in here are as tough as a lot of the bosses you've fought so far. It isn't too hard, but you'll need to heal regularly. Go around either side first for treasures and then loop round to the other side for more treasures. The only monster to watch out for now are the Flame Devils. They have an atack called flame which is a multi attack stronger than Amon's was, and yet they can appear in larger groups. Bahamut and Cure4 for safety. Cure4 should always be used by the Sage with the White Robe, which should be Refia who was trained along the White Mage route. The secret passages are very easy to spot by now, the colouring in the tile will be different as is the case for most of the game.
Red Dragons are worth fighting for Elixirs and a chance for Onion Swords/Shields. Onion equipment is the ultimate equipment for high level Onion Knights (90+) and is the best in the game.
This dungeon is pretty linear, which is a good thing given that the enemies are fairly tough, on floor 3 you'll head to the south east corner pop out and head back round and reappear in the south west of floor 3. Loop around to the north side of the screen and grab the two chests either side of the entrance to the next floor before proceeding. Head around and up to the 5th straight away. The layout is fairly confusing here, head to the south west and loop around to the north side and head to the next floor.
Another fairly simple floor awaits, ehad west and then east for treasures before going to the south to exit to the next floor. This floor has a simple layout too, but you'll need to venture into the water to gain all the Crystal euqipment. Grab the 4 chests and head into the final room.
A cut scene will occur and 5 Demon Dragon statues will paralyse you. 5 heroes from the game will conveniently come to your aid and distract them so you can fight Zande in the next room.
Haste both Ninjas in the first round. Zande is kind of obvious in his plans, he casts Libra to identify a party member and then casts meteo on them in the next turn. He'll die in a few turns like the rest of the pathetic bosses so far.
The major villain shows her sexy self up right at the end of this part, and as quite often for a Final Fantasy game, near the end of the game. She wipes the party out with ease using Flare Wave. Best piece of the music accompanies her when you fight her in my opinion too.
Unne and Dorga show up with the rest of the guys who were distracting the Dragons and the party is healed and ventures into the Darkness.
