No save states were used, the game was played with the Vice 64 core on Retroarch. It is necessary to use the 256 KB REU (RAM Expansion Unit) in the core options.

This is awesome, I wish I had a game like this on my C64.

It is a bit slower compared to the original Master System version, and the colors are less vibrant, but it mostly plays exactly the same, and both problems can be solved by playing the NTSC version and using different palettes..
A few little differences: Sonic can't carry the barrier from act to act anymore, making the final act slightly harder; Bridge and Jungle zones second acts are much easier because there is no more forced scrolling. (I actually prefer them this way, Sonic and auto/vertical scrolling traditionally are a bad combo)
Unfortunately I also noticed a couple of new bugs, luckily not gamebreaking: first, 2 times during my playtime rebounds didn't work and Sonic got glued to his target, one time against the final boss and another in this video, at 9:50 in the second special act; second, Scrap Brain 2 resets time and rings counters everytime Sonic enter a different area of the level.
Anyway this was a blast to play, the "Sonic Team 64" did nonetheless an excellent work.
