223kids nowadays will never know how good the jojo scene was prior to it getting big in the west. it was a tightly knit, niche little place with a couple of in-jokes and really passionate enjoyers of it. i only got into it towards the end of the larger fanbase being tolerable. slowly but surely, as the anime adaptation kept going, more and more meming secondaries (literal children) reared their ugly heads. i must admit, despite having been a fan prior to the true cancer era, i was not immune to taking part in the shitty meming. indeed, it was that very thing that make me fully cut off reading the rest of the series and stopped caring all together. i never read jojolion but i did read all of steel ball run before forgetting about the series for a while.
basically what i'm getting at is that gatekeeping is perfectly acceptable and should be practiced more often to keep the integrity of the members of the community and of the community itself. to let in secondaries is to kill a hobby. it's like that one image with the little stick figures. you know what i'm talking about? yeah, that.
it's so fucking weird to me to go to walmart or something and see a stardust crusaders poster on their poster rack. part of me still thinks of jjba as it once was.
anyways phantom blood itself is really cool. dusting it off again and reading through it last week made me appreciate it a lot more than when i was a little dipshit. hamon is really cool but can feel highly derivative of hokuto shinken from fist of the north star (jojo even looks like chinese dollar store kenshiro.) and dio is written really fucking well. i like pretty much anything with big muscle men (NOT IN A HOMOSEXUAL WAY)
