This the Sony PlayStation. And today, I'm going to review it.

The Sony PlayStation was originally conceived as a CD add-on to the SNES. Things were going well, until Nintendo backed out. Nintendo would eventually partner and depart with Philips. Sony decided to turn it into their own console. Philips would do the same with their CD-i. This is why their are many similarities between the SNES and the PlayStation.

The PlayStation was released in 1994 in Japan, and 1995 everywhere else. It sold much better than it's competitors. Sega and Nintendo had some serious competition on their hands.

They were flying off shelf floors. There were many developers supporting the system. Hundreds and thousands of games were produced. By the end of it's life, in 2004, it had just above 100,000,000 units. The PlayStation brand was here to stay.

The system itself is a rather ugly looking console. The buttons feel cheap. The early models were poorly designed. The controllers are pretty good. The PS1, in my opinion, has the best startup ever.

The PS1 is a CD based 32-Bit system. It wasn't the most powerful, but it was certainly the easiest. That's why many people jumped to Sony. The 3DO was becoming irrelevant. The Jaguar was already dead. The Sega Saturn was tricky to develop for and had terrible marketing. The N64 didn't use CD's. So Sony pretty much had it.

The PS1's library is comprised of nearly, if not over 1,000 games. There's a game for everybody. The PS1 is still pretty affordable. I highly recommend that you buy one before they get too expensive. There's no reason to not own one. Get it. Get it NOW!
