Space Engineers: Fall Apart (on the Bounce)
It's nearing the end of the extended multiplayer beta, so w4sted and I spent the evening in the workshop working on a solar-powered flyer. Since the script to maintain altitude and avoid terrain was being a bit finicky, I decided to tackle the side problem of how to get on and off the platform... which ran me right back into an issue I noticed during my first MP beta public server test stream.
There's something up with small grids that are relatively small in the game, where you'll be flying along and suddenly it "burps" - the nose pops up a bit, the craft slows down, then it pops back into normal flight. I had that in spades during my test flights, along with some new problem.
For example, when nearing another grid -- the solar plane in this case -- the ship would lose all control. The first flight you'll see, the gyros were definitely overpowered, but on future flights, I was operating one or two gyros at 25-30% power and had nothing but smooth flights. You'd get a nice approach lined up, and then BAM, the ship goes tumbling.
Add to that a rather odd problem with Plane Parts for me - on both small and large grids, standing at the junction between blocks would suddenly violently throw my character all over the place, even though I was standing perfectly fine. I didn't learn until near the end of the stream you just had to walk a bit to clear the glitch.
Then there's the matter of the LOD bug being absolutely rampant in the world. This was a fresh world with nothing else on it save for a few welcome centers when the night was over. It started with just a low level of distance between the trees and low-LOD ground, but by the end of the night, it was exceptionally bad.
Hopefully Keen can do something about this when they get to the release. For something that was coping with connection problems on my end (connecting to a streamer on the other side of the ocean), it was going pretty well for non-DS multiplayer.
