Space Raiders Space Invaders Invasion Day PS2 playthrough Part 03 Naji [FINAL]
For all the information and all the "whys", please read the description of Part 01.
Since I have played through this game three times (which is not that difficult due to the game's length), here are my final thoughs:
- I now understand why this game is considered as an infamous reboot;
- most of the game mechanics or its insane difficulty would be OK if it was an arcade game, but it isn't; it is a PS2 game and yet the devs decided to add infinite continues and raise the difficulty bar to the level of a cheap arcade the goal of which would be to drain your pockets dry;
- there is a mechanic that increases the strength of your weapon based on your combo, I know there is a video of someone who managed to keep a combo of 999(!) but this requires patience this game does not deserve at all. Enemies move so fast and are so unpredictable, it is a pain to even keep a combo of 20+. If you focus on the combo, you'll die soon enough because you can't shoot fast enough (believe me, the auto shot is very slow while your tapping speed has no real impact on the shooting speed) so you won't be able to defend yourself against the barrage of bullets enemies in front of you will shoot;
- speaking of bullets... some of the projectiles are completely invisible. Dark/Brownish dots on a dark/brownish background - now that is something. The attack patterns and the amount of projectiles belong to a 2D bullet hell game, not to a camera style like here, seriously, sometimes you do not know whether you will avoid a bullet or smash directly into another, you are completely clueless about your accurate position;
- now about the game content, I finished the game three times with all the characters because I wanted to discover a "true" ending, a new mode, a new character, anything. There is no additional content in the game except for the survival mode (which is just the regular game with one life). Although the manual says each character has their own unique ending, each ending is exactly the same; they simply just put a different character in the same scene. Boy, I even hoped that their initial location/stage would be different (one character was shown in a back alley, one in her house, one at a cemetery) but nope, all were the same;
- so, although this game has some potential for high-score hoarders, I see no actual reason to play this title ever again. It has this unfair arcade style, but without even half the fun that, e.g. Metal Slug will provide.
In the first video I wrote that it's a good game to have in your collection. It is, without a doubt, but thanks to the all bad reasons actually. It's like collecting all the infamous NES titles. Play through it once, cross it out from the list and put in back on the shelf for all eternity.
