Not gonna lie, I was almost worried that I was gonna need a fourth session to complete this game, just given how much trouble I had with the last string of missions. I may have never played San Andreas, but even I'm aware of that damn train mission. I have to wonder if Revolver's war train mission inspired it... or the other way around. Either way, it was kind of a pain to get through. I'm just glad there was a checkpoint after clearing the train.

As a matter of fact, that might actually be the game's most major flaw in my eyes: there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to checkpoints. Like, sometimes, an in-game cutscene will signify one. Other times, it won't. There's no little icon in the bottom of the screen that pops up when you reach one. Sometimes, completing a certain type of segment will result in a checkpoint, other times it won't. There's just no rhyme or reason to it. The only way to know for sure is by dying and that just seems like poor game design.

And don't get me started on that lockpicking segment. 3 minutes of defending a guy from randomly spawning enemies, including several with boss-grade health? What the hell! Trying to keep AI partners alive in this game was already bad enough, but tying it to the win condition is just too far. Also, for some reason, the final boss fight against Governor Griffon gave me Yakuza flashbacks. Maybe it's because his most devastating attack involved walking up to me, grabbing me, throwing me to the ground and then following it up with a swift kick for good measure.

In the end, this game is flawed but fun. It's just a shame that instead of going forward with this style of gameplay, Rockstar decided to just turn it into "Wild West Grand Theft Auto" and call it a day. I mean, it seems like that's what Rockstar wanted for the Redemption games in the first place and just decided to toss them into the Red Dead imprint, since it already existed. Still, would've loved to have seen more of Red's adventures, especially with his larger-than-life moveset.
