As promised, today we'll swing back into the world of Spider-Man and movie-based games alike as i take you into the very first open-world Spider-Man video game, based off the second part of Sam Raimi's iconic movie trilogy, Spider-Man 2 so sit back, relax and enjoy the gameplay.
Spider-Man 2, also known as Spider-Man 2: The Movie is 2004 action-adventure video game with open-world and beat-'em-up elements developed by Treyarch and published by Activision for PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, PCs, Nokia N-Gage, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable and GameBoy Advance. It is the second video game directly based off Spider-Man movies and serves as an direct tie-in for 2004 movie Spider-Man 2 starring Tobey Maguire. Upon release, Spider-man 2 received varying reception depending on the release hardware with original console versions receiving the best reception on account of large, detailed and open-ended depiction of Manhattan previously unseen in Spider-Man games, realistic web swinging mechanics and variety of side content, although criticism was aimed at the fact that some types of side missions were too repetitive while PC and PSP versions were worst-received. Regardless, Spider-Man 2: The Movie, or at least its console versions have left definite mark on Spider-Man games released after 2004 as elements of its gameplay can be seen in other Spider-Man video games, including 2005's The Ultimate Spider-Man, 2008's Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows and 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man, cementing its legacy as highly influential movie-based video game. Due to this success, third movie of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, 2007's Spider-Man 3 received its own tie-in video game.
Story of the game closely follows and expands upon the events of the movie, following Peter Parker two years after he became Spider-Man and defeated Green Goblin, although by this point, he is strained between his personal life as an student and masked vigilante protecting Manhattan from criminals. One day, after stopping an arcade robbery, Spider-Man realizes that he is late for the university lecture held by Dr. Curt Connors, forcing him to hurry there...
